Description

The PX10-06 is ACCO's front-facing ten-sheet home office shredder: a wider, lower cabinet than the PSX10-06, built so the controls and the bin both face you rather than sitting on top.

That layout is the point of the model. A machine you have to lean over to operate tends to get used less than one you can reach from a chair, and at this size the ergonomics matter more than the specification. Everything else — the P-4 cutting head, the ten-sheet capacity, the 6-gallon bin, the six-minute run time — is shared with its taller sibling.

Key Features

  • Front-facing design with a touch control interface, so the machine can sit under a desk and still be operated without crouching.
  • DIN 66399 P-4 at 5/32 x 1 1/2 in (about 4 x 38 mm, roughly 152 mm² per particle).
  • Ten sheets per pass on 20 lb paper.
  • 8.7-inch throat — legal and A4 go in unfolded.
  • Shreds through staples and paper clips.
  • Under 62 dBA with ACCO's Whisper Shred cutting arrangement.
  • Recessed blades and auto-reverse jam recovery.
  • Six-gallon pull-out bin, 16.7 x 14 x 9.4 in, 14.3 lb, two-year warranty.

As with the rest of ACCO's personal range, the product page calls this head micro-cut while rating the machine P-4. Under DIN 66399 those are different things: micro-cut starts at P-5 and a 30 mm² particle, and this head produces roughly 152 mm². We have listed it as a P-4 super cross-cut, which is what the geometry says, so that it files correctly against a written specification rather than against a marketing term.

The six-minute run time deserves the same directness. It is short, it is real, and it is the constraint that will bother you if you buy this machine for the wrong job. Six minutes clears a day's post comfortably. It does not clear a drawer.

Sheet capacity is quoted on 20 lb paper, ACCO's stated basis for the ShredMaster range. ACCO does not publish a motor wattage or a shipping weight for every model, so those rows appear only where the manufacturer states them.

What's in the Box

Shredder with 6-gallon pull-out bin and power cord. ACCO's 6-8 gallon plastic shredder bag, part 1765016, names the PX10-06 on its compatibility list and is sold 100 to a box. Shredder oil is part 1760049.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy the PX10-06 for a desk. The front-facing layout, the touch controls and the low wide body are designed for a machine that lives within arm's reach, and for a home office or a single workstation handling a folder of confidential paper a month it is well judged. P-4 is the standard commercial level, staples and clips go straight in, and under 62 dBA it will not interrupt a phone call.

Do not buy it if you shred in sessions rather than a few sheets at a time. Ten sheets and six minutes is a small budget, and the SX15-06 at 120 minutes or the SX20-08 at 240 minutes are the models that will not have you waiting. Do not buy it if you need cards or discs destroyed — this head is rated for paper, staples and clips only. And if the machine will stand on the floor beside you rather than under the desk, the PSX10-06 is the same specification in a taller, narrower cabinet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can it shred credit cards?

No. ACCO rates this machine for paper, staples and paper clips only. Some shredders in this price bracket accept cards and this one does not, which is worth knowing before you buy rather than after. Cutting a rigid card on a head that is not specified for it is how a ten-sheet shredder gets retired early.

Can it shred staples?

Yes, and paper clips too. That covers the great majority of what arrives in ordinary post, so nothing has to be unpicked before it goes in. Adhesive labels, laminated pouches, continuous form paper and cardboard should all stay out.

What is the run time?

Six minutes of continuous operation before the machine needs a rest. That is enough for a day's correspondence and not enough for a backlog. If your pattern is to save up a box and deal with it in one afternoon, look at the SX15-06 or SX20-08 instead.

Will legal paper fit?

Yes. The throat is 8.7 inches wide and US legal is 8.5 inches, so legal sheets feed flat without folding. A4 at 8.27 inches fits as well. Nothing wider than that will, and folding paper to make it fit halves the effective sheet capacity.

How often will the bin need emptying?

About every 150 to 200 sheets. Six gallons sounds generous until you see how much space cross-cut waste occupies — it is mostly air. A liner is worth using, both to keep the fine dust contained and to make the trip to the bin a single movement.

Is this NSA approved?

No. NSA/CSS 02-01 requires a 1 mm x 5 mm particle and listing on the NSA Evaluated Products List, and this is a P-4 machine that is not listed. No personal shredder in this class comes close to that standard; NSA-listed machines take a handful of sheets at a time and cost several times as much.
