GBC Shredder Oil, For SelfOil TAA Compliant Shredders, 1 Liter

This is the 1 litre bottle of GBC shredder oil, ACCO part number 1753190, intended for TAA compliant shredders fitted with the SelfOil feature. On those machines the shredder lubricates its own cutters as needed from an on-board reservoir, and this is the oil that reservoir takes.

The distinction from the 16 oz bottle, part 1760049, is what the oil is for rather than what it is. A SelfOil machine meters lubricant automatically, so it goes through oil steadily and in larger quantities than a machine you oil by hand — which is why ACCO packages this one in a litre bottle rather than a squeeze applicator.

Compatible Models

ACCO specifies this bottle for TAA compliant shredders equipped with the SelfOil automatic lubrication system. ACCO does not publish a model-by-model list against this part number, so rather than invent one we will say plainly what determines the fit:

• Any GBC or Swingline TAA compliant shredder with a SelfOil reservoir. If the machine has a filler point for oil and lubricates the cutters without you feeding an oiled sheet through it, this is the correct product.
• Machines without a reservoir should use the 16 oz bottle, part 1760049, applied on a sheet of paper.

If you are not certain which system your machine uses, check the operating manual for an oiling section, or send us the model number and we will confirm before you order. Getting this wrong is not dangerous, but a litre of oil is an awkward thing to have bought for a machine that cannot use it.

A SelfOil machine will tell you when the reservoir needs topping up, and how often that happens is a function of how much the shredder actually runs. A departmental cabinet in daily use will get through a litre far faster than one that runs for a few minutes a day. Because the machine meters the oil itself, the failure mode is not obvious — you do not notice under-lubrication until the cutters start struggling, so keep a spare bottle rather than ordering on demand.

Do not top a SelfOil reservoir up with aerosol lubricant, household oil or a penetrating spray. The reservoir and its feed are designed around a specific viscosity, and the wrong fluid can block the delivery path as well as damage the machine.
